IN LOZERE, LIFE IS ENJOYABLE...

With 73500 inhabitants, and about 13 inhabitants per km2, Lozere is the less populated place of France, but on the other hand, the highest with an average altitude of 1000 m. At this period where calms is preached, the quietness and the return to the nature, Lozere has some lengths in advance on the others region ; a sign of this well being : you will not find more than fifteen traffic lights and hardly the same for these diabolic roundabouts in the whole department. Lozere has also the national record of the surface allocated to biological agriculture, the palm of the air quality, rates of unemployment, crime and of delinquancy the weakest of France.

Its bordes correspond to those of old Gevaudan (where the famous beast used to live t!!!). The Tarn, the Lot, the Allier and some others less known rivers take their sources in Lozere. The Lozere Mounts and the Aigoual Mount have the appearance of a true water tower. And all these valley break the uniformity of plates and transform nature into imposing landscapes. People from Lozere are proud of saying that no water coming from elsewhere runs on their territory and chose like symbol of their identité that of the sources.

There are severals kind of landscape in Lozere : in the Cévennes, the relief is uneven, in the large plateau called "Causses, it is like vast plates at the infinite horizons, in Aubrac, it looks like mountains, with huge grounds of transhumance in the isolement of the pasturages, and finally Margeride, it is a succession of forests, stream with trouts and granite villages.
